Typewriter-101: Let’s get Typing!
Our city was the birthplace of the first practical typewriter in the late 1800s—including the modern QWERTY keyboard layout we still use today!  Celebrate these mechanical marvels at this playful, fully interactive evening cohosted by Typewrite | Milwaukee.

We’ll provide a range of typewriters from the 1930s through 80s, and cover the basics of their history and use with some fun, classic typing games.  This workshop will include plenty of free-write time with the machines to experience how unplugging and slowing down can positively impact your own creative process.  We’ll have writing prompts to get you started, plus stationary, vintage postcards, and stamps (so you can share some typewritten love beyond the shop's walls).

Space is limited so be sure to sign up asap.

About your host
Zach loves typewriters and other mechanized word-arts as they combine his passion for history, language, graphics and creative expression.  His new project, Typewrite | Milwaukee, embraces these and promotes collaboration and accessibility for a wide range of communities, backgrounds and ages.  He draws inspiration from his recent work establishing and managing CultureWorks’ Coworking program, as well as his previous background in historic preservation [MS, Columbia University] and liberal arts [BA, Bennington College].

When not writing and tinkering, Zach can be found exploring Washington Park with his pit bull Miles, driving 'round town in his VW Bus, and hitting up every antique mall and thrift store on the map.
