A Closer Look

The Story:

Radio Milwaukee is more than just a a public radio station. They champion Milwaukee music, arts and culture, neighborhoods and community organizations while celebrating diversity and encouraging community engagement.

Station leadership was looking for an updated way to thank donors and supporters in the entryway of their community space and studio.

The Process:

Understanding the special and unique energy of the radio station, we knew we wanted to look beyond the traditional lists of names — while still giving supporters the recognition they deserve.

We dug into our hundred-year-old drawers of wood type to bring history and texture to their more contemporary space — printing a bespoke wall-paper featuring key words from the station’s mission statement among other positive attributes.

Layers of brightly printed plexiglass contrast bold illustrations, helping illustrate the multi-faceted goals that 88Nine aims to brings to the community.

The result is a one-of-a-kind space-activating installation that highlights the station’s important mission, alongside the impressive list of donors who help make it all happen.

A wonderful experience

Working with Ashley and Danielle to reimagine our entryway at Radio Milwaukee was a WONDERFUL experience. Our project did not have a lot of guardrails, but we had lofty ambitions for what we wanted to achieve in the space. BVPC facilitated and participated in our brainstorming sessions and worked with us to create something that is truly one-of-a-kind. Our entryway now physically manifests our brand personality in a way we didn’t think was possible using mixed media, loads of descriptive language and, of course, that incredible 100-year-old type.
